SPE Western Regional Meeting Notes
Thanks to the efforts of our outstanding committees, hundreds of details are falling into place as our June 19 - 22 convention rapidly approaches. Buoyed by record oil prices, the positive elements of our industry are rallying around the first-ever joint SPE/AAPG meeting, true to the theme "Working in Concert".

The Technical Program Committee has put the finishing touches on an aggressive 41 sessions, and 240 presentations schedule which will feature relevant technology from California and a variety of top-notch domestic and international contributors. Exhibit booth demand remains strong, with 65% of our available 45 spaces already reserved. Prospective exhibitors are urged to contact Texokan's Linda Smith @ 310-395- 0185 in order not to be left out of the premier oilfield sales opportunity for the year!

The convention will be the site of our Annual SPE Student Paper Contest and Awards Dinner and an AAPG/SPE Job Fair. Stanford and USC will be holding Alumni events. We will be offering 6 continuing education courses and 5 field trips. The California Oil Museum in Santa Paula will be exhibiting historical overviews of our Petroleum Industry in California in an area open to the public where we also plan to highlight our community outreach programs.

We are offering teachers from grades 6-12 the opportunity to attend the AAPG class, "Rocks in Your Head" and go on a field trip to see the regional geology and urban oil and gas operations. Please direct your interested teachers to our homepage at www.laspe.org for more information.

Watch for your edition of the Preliminary Technical Program in the mail later in the month. For a quick preview, the entire PTP will also be posted on our homepage by mid-April. Pre-register early to receive all the goodies we have in store.

We can use your help! Contact Glenn Swanson, WRM Chairman (Duke Engineering, 310-979-4777 x11), or Don Clarke (City of Long Beach, 562-570-3915) to find out how you can join in on the action.

The LA Basin SPE Charity Golf Classic will be held on Friday June 23, 2000 at the Green River Course, Corona, CA. Having the golf tournament immediately after the WRM convention will allow people who wish to attend it to do so. As the event is fully booked months in advance, interested parties must reserve their spot by March 1, 2000. Approximately 20-40 spots will be held for WRM attendees.
