Please note that there will be no lunch meeting for the month of June 2006.

In its place, a special workshop has been scheduled beginning at 2:30 of the afternoon of Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at the Long Beach Petroleum Club and followed by dinner and cash bar from 6 to 7 PM. The regular LASPE Board meeting will convene at 1 PM on June 13th at the Petroleum Club. This workshop is highly recommended for reservoir engineers, production geologists, production engineers, asset managers and petroleum engineering consultants.

LASPE Workshop: The X-Plot Method for Analyzing Waterfloods

By Dr. Ershaghi - Omar B. Milligan Professor and the Director of the Petroleum Engineering Program at The Mork Family Department of Chemical Engineering and Material Science at the Viterbi School of Engineering, University of Southern California.

Abstract:

This three-hour workshop will provide an opportunity for the participants to understand important signals embedded in waterflood performance data for making diagnostic evaluation and forecasting. It will be conducted by Professor Iraj Ershaghi, the author of the X-Plot method and will include the following topics:

Understanding waterflood performance data from the fractional flow concepts and the Buckley-Leverette.leaky piston model.
Translating field data into analytical models for performance forecasting.
Extracting useful information from WOR and X-plots.
Case Studies

Instructor:
Dr. Ershaghi is the Omar B. Milligan Professor and the Director of the Petroleum Engineering Program at The Mork Family Department of Chemical Engineering and Material Science at the Viterbi School of Engineering, University of Southern California. He is also serving as the Regional Director of the U. S. Department of Energy, Petroleum Technology Transfer Council and as the Executive Director of USC-Chevron Center for Smart Oilfield Technologies (CiSoft). He has served on the Faculty since 1972 and his areas of research have been reservoir characterization and modeling and IOR processes.
