Chairperson's message for November 2006
View from the chair. . .
As we enter the end of the year, it is worth mentioning again that the petroleum industry is continuing to operate in high gear. As oil prices remain relatively high, the companies in the LA basin that operate the older, more mature fields are drilling more new wells, doing more recompletions and stimulations, and finding ways to bring back on damaged idle wells. Those companies should know that the LA Basin SPE is here to help. Throughout the year, we present technology-based talks at out monthly forum at the Long Beach petroleum club. While at the forum, members have a chance to meet other members – some with many years of experience in the industry. This is an opportunity to network and gain insight into the state of the industry, and to perhaps find a solution to your operational and exploitation problems. Many independent consultants attend the monthly forum meetings.
It has been suggested that the LA Basin SPE should occasionally sponsor a one-day “trouble-shooting” forum, specially focused on helping LA companies solve their problems. Local operating companies could interact with each other and with local consultants to find unique solutions. If this is of interest to the LA Basin members, please contact me directly with your comments and suggestions at LOVESM@IX.NETCOM.COM.
Finally, to all the new young professionals that have started an oil industry career in the LA Basin, you are welcome to attend the monthly forum meetings (and the board meeting that starts at 10AM before the forum) and try to get involved in the many LA SPE activities. Perhaps you could visit a high school science fair or participate in some of our other “outreach” programs. I look forward to seeing everyone at our November forum.
