I hope everyone is having a safe and fun summer. As you may know, the LA SPE is taking its annual summer break from having Board meetings and Technical Forum Lunches. We plan to start again in September. But there are still several issues that need to be addressed during the summer break.
First, I wish to remind all members that the 2007 SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibit will be held in November in Anaheim. I believe this is the first time the ATCE has been in Southern California in a quarter century! I hope all LA SPE members will be attending this ATCE. It will be a great opportunity to catch some top-notch technical presentations, see the latest vendor offerings, and network with friends and hiring corporations. I also wish to remind everyone that, as the hosting SPE Section, the LA SPE needs to supply over 100 volunteers to the 2007 ATCE. If you are planning to attend the ATCE anyway, please consider volunteering for a half-day. We need people to help in each of 70 technical sessions, assist attendees in the Registration area, and take students on guided tours of the exhibit hall.
Second, its time again to have LA SPE Board nominations and elections for the SPE year of October 1, 2007 to September 30, 2008. Brandy Fellers, as Vice-Chairperson, is to be nominated as the LA SPE Chairperson for 2007-2008. There are 3 regular Board positions open and the Vice-Chairperson position is open. We are accepting nominations for all of these positions. If you are interested in a Board position or wish to nominate someone else, please forward a short resume to Scott McGurk as soon as possible at LOVESM@IX.NETCOM.COM.
And finally, I would like to ask all LA SPE members to remember the LA SPE in their estate planning. The LA SPE is a valuable and worthy organization. We give out over $10,000 in scholarships each year to deserving students. We support local colleges and high schools with out-reach programs. And we present the latest technologies at our Forum Luncheons. We would like to do so much more, but it simply takes money. So please remember what the LA SPE has done for you, and do something in return for the LA SPE.
Again, have a great summer and I hope to see everyone in September at our next Technical Forum Lunch.
