Dear fellow SPE members,
Its just now February and already I feel busier than ever. I am sure most of you feel the same way. With crude prices remaining strong, there is no slow down in activity. Speaking of prices, if you haven’t already entered in the crude price challenge it’s not too late. Use whatever method works best for you: the crystal ball, the magic 8 ball or just hold your Exxon credit card up to your forehead and imagine the future (like Carnac The Magnificent).
Speaking of strong industry activity reminds me I would like to thank Jack Smith for his strong efforts to make LASPE the great organization that it is. Although Jack has recently stepped down as a member of the Board of Directors, Jack will continue chairing the Scholarship and Science Fair committees.
Much of the scholarship funding and community outreach programs that LASPE supports is possible because of our annual fundraising event that is just around the corner. The 2008 LASPE Annual Charity Golf Tournament including awards banquet, will be held at Los Serranos CC in Chino Hills on Friday, May 16th. Mike Filbey of THUMS (562-624-3526) is chairing the event for the first time and is committed to “better than ever.” Join in with 280+ friends and colleagues for a day of golf, fun and prizes. Watch for your flyer in the mail and sign up early.
And lastly, the nominations for the Society wide awards are due by February 15th. Please check out the awards and criteria at http://www.spe.org/spe-app/spe/about/honors/spe_awards.htm. This is a great way to recognize your fellow SPE members that go above and beyond to make sure that the society remains strong both locally and internationally. The awards enable us to recognize distinguished members and their contributions to the society or a technical advancement.
See you all at the monthly forum.
Sincerely,
Brandy Fellers
LASPE Chairperson 2007-2008
