Chairperson's message for September 2010
Hello Fellow SPE Members,
Great News
Congratulations! I have very exciting news to share this month. The Los Angeles Basin Section was selected to receive the 2009-2010 SPE President’s Awards for Section Excellence. This prestigious award recognizes SPE sections whose efforts in membership development, member programs, technology dissemination, cooperation with other civic and professional organizations, are exceptional. We are very proud of our LA SPE board and committee members. As chairperson, I also have the honor of attending the President’s Luncheon for the upcoming 2010 SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) to be held 20-22 September 2010 in Florence, Italy. I will receive the award on behalf of our LASPE Section. The award will be presented by our 2010 SPE President Behrooz Fattahi.
New Officers/New Term
This month we will be selecting and voting for new Chairpersons and Board Members for our LA section. With each new term, we fill new positions and assignments. This will be my last month serving as Chairperson and stepping down to become the Jr. Past Chair for the 2010/2011 program year. Mike Utt, our Vice Chair will be our new 2010-2011 Chairperson starting on October 1, 2010. Thanks Mike, and we are all looking for another successful year under your leadership. I would also like to thank Leila Rashedi who will take over for Katherine Walgreen as our Forum Chair for the new term. Thanks to our past Forum Chair, Katherine for a wonderful job.
Appreciation Luncheon
On July 15, 2010, we had our annual Board Appreciation Luncheon at the Olive Garden in Cypress. Each year the section invites all board and committee members to a nice luncheon. The event gives us a chance to say “thanks” to those who volunteered their time for a very successful 2009-2010 LASPE year. We also recognized our scholarship winner, Garrett Hara, who was not present to receive his award at the last forum meeting. We wish to thank our volunteers on the Golf Committee, which was chaired by Mark Shemaria. His leadership will be missed as he begins a new job assignment in Bakersfield. Good luck Mark! The Tournament each year raises a substantial portion of the operating funds for our section which allows us to contribute services and funds to our community.
Thanks again to all Board and Committee members who take time from their busy schedule to participate in LASPE activities. The luncheon was enjoyed by all and LASPE is now ready for another successful year.
