View from the chair. . . It’s hard to believe that a year has already gone by for me as Chairperson of the LA Basin SPE.  Overall, it has been an enjoyable year.  I am proud of the fine job the Board of Directors, officers, and committee chairs have done in continuing existing programs, balancing our budget, raising funds for our operations, and initiating new important programs.  When I leave as Chairperson at the end of September, I know the LA SPE will be in good hands and will have a strong budget. Although I will not be the Chairperson in November this year during the 2007 Annual Technical Conference and Exhibit in Anaheim, I will still be very busy with the LA SPE.  I am chairing the Technical Sessions committee.  I have the responsibility for scheduling 70 volunteers for assisting in the roughly 70 half-day technical sessions.  So far, less than 20 LA SPE people have volunteered to help in the technical sessions, and time is running out!  If you are planning to attend any technical sessions at the 2007 ATCE in Anaheim, please consider volunteering for just one half-day.  After all, you will already be planning to sit in a session and listen to the presentations – why not listen and help with room lights, presenter scheduling, and other small tasks.  Technical session volunteers do not work the audio-visual equipment, since the SPE has outsourced that responsibility.  We also need volunteers for the Registration area (not to do registration, but to guide people) and we need volunteers to lead student tours of the exhibit hall.  Please contact me as soon as possible at LOVESM@IX.NETCOM.COM.   As a reminder, The Board of Directors will be voting on a new Chairperson, new Vice-Chairperson, new Directors, and officers at the September 11 board meeting.  There is still time to nominate yourself or someone else for Vice-Chairperson, or the three Director positions, or for Treasurer.  Just have the nominee E-mail a one or two paragraph mini-resume to me at the above address.  I hope that some of you are interested in helping guide and develop a truly valuable organization. I hope to see all of you at the September 11 Technical Forum meeting at the Petroleum Club in Long Beach.
