April showers bring the Annual May SPE Golf Tournament fund raiser. At last count by Mark Shemaria, it appears that the tournament this year will be another sell out. Many thanks to Mark and his dedicated support team for the hours of hard work they committed to making this fund raiser a success. Even if you don’t golf, please stop by the tournament for the lunch BBQ and buy lots of raffle tickets for a chance to win some of the great prizes to be given away in the evening. The prizes were all donated by many individuals and companies that support this fund raising effort. Remember – all proceeds go to supporting the LA Basin SPE and its many programs, including scholarships, community outreach, student activities, and continuing education for SPE members.
As the 2007 SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibit in November gets closer, I want to remind LA Basin SPE members that we will need a total of approximately 170 volunteers to help in the technical sessions, the registration area, and with student tours of the exhibit hall. The 2007 ATCE will be at the Anaheim Convention Center and more than 7000 world-wide SPE members are expected to attend. So if you are planning to attend, and you think you can donate a half-day of your time, please contact me as soon as possible.
As Chair of the LA SPE Continuing Education program, Rudy Weibel is planning to schedule a one day class on the Petrophysics of Southern California Turbidites and their Shaly Sands. He is hoping to hold the class in early June at the Long Beach petroleum Club, so please stay tuned for more details.
I look forward to seeing everyone at our regular SPE Forum meeting at the Long Beach Petroleum Club on May 8.
