View from the chair. . . Dear fellow SPE members, First of all, I would like to thank everyone that participated in the recent Annual Golf Tournament, especially Mike Filbey and the golf tournament committee for their commitment to making the event a success.  Despite the challenging winds and warm weather, all seemed to have a great time.  With your participation, LASPE will continue various outreach efforts in the coming year that help build a strong community both within SPE and outside.  Secondly I would like to acknowledge Jack Smith and Vanessa Perez for their personal contribution to several outreach events.  Jack and Vanessa recently participated in the County Science Fair in Los Angeles as judges where LASPE also contributed to several Award winners.  In addition, Vanessa Perez participated with Ed Santiago, Scott Hara, Mark Shemaria along with Tidelands personnel Jason McCraw and Inez Vilchez in the 11th Annual Community Read-In/Career Day at the International Elementary School.   The turn out for the June forum event was outstanding. An interesting topic presented by Bruce Berwager of Warren E&P on the “Opportunities and Challenges of Urban Oil Fields” was timely and pertinent for the entire section.
