Chairperson's message for April 2008

Dear Los Angeles SPE members,
It’s April and spring is upon us. Spring means several important events for the Basin, including:
- Annual Easter Egg Hunt
- Scholarship season
- Western Regional Meeting
- Annual Golf Tournament.
The LASPE Annual Easter Egg Hunt for the International Elementary School took place on March 20th, 2008 in Long Beach. This year’s event was organized by Ed Santiago and Vanessa Perez. Thanks to THUMS Long Beach Company for sponsoring the event and the many volunteers, especially Ed and Vanessa, that came out early to help out. For more about the event see Vanessa’s article on page 6.
The deadline to apply for scholarships is May 1st. Please contact Jack Smith if you are interested in applying for a scholarship. I would like to congratulate Jalal Torabzadeh for his outstanding service to SPE and recognition at this year's Western Regional Meeting in Bakersfield. Jalal has been awarded the 2008 Western North America Regional Service Award.
All of you golf enthusiasts, there is still time to sign up for the golf tournament. Remember, you will not only enjoy a great day of golfing at the Los Serranos Country Club, but your entrance fee to the golf tournament contributes to the many of outreach efforts such as the scholarships mentioned above. Lastly, I hope to see you all at the next forum meeting on April 8th. Vello Kuuskraa talk is titled, ‘Maximizing Oil Recovery Efficiency and Sequestration of CO2 with “Next Generation” CO2-EOR’.
