Mike Fillipow teaches Geology at Long Beach Polytechnic High School.  In 2004, Mike was honored as AAPG’s Teacher of the Year.”  He used his grant money for equipment and field trips for his students.  In 2005 and again this year, LASPE has covered expenses for three field trips to interesting local geologic and oil producing areas. 

Here are some photos.  On the top of Signal Hill, John Jepson guides a tour of facilities and is shown explaining pumping operations.  Other field trips include THUMS Islands, outcrops and faulting in Palos Verdes and the LA County Museum of Natural History.
